Skill Assessment Tool for Building Operators
Take an inventory of your energy conservation skills
and create a career action plan
BOC conducted a survey in early 2011 to validate the skills building operators need in order to operate a commercial, high-performance facility that is focused on improving energy usage and maintaining efficient systems over time. We would like to thank the 203 building operators and the national advisory committee members who reviewed 108 knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with an operator's job tasks. Not only do these industry-reviewed skills help us develop high-quality and professionally-relevant training, they set a standard that underscores the key role the building operator professional plays in a profitable corporate energy management strategy and helping organizations meet and exceed energy management goals.

As an operator, having a clear picture of the skills you have now can help you determine what steps are needed to realize your career goals and utilize your skills effectively. The BOC Program developed a free, "user-friendly" self‐assessment tool to help the professional operator take inventory of key energy conservation skills and chart a course to build needed skills. Follow the link to start using the tool today and spread the word. We welcome your feedback on how well the skills inventory worked for you or your employees. Also, be sure to check out the summer 2011 Bulletin. The forums and articles written by building operators are highly informative and practical.
