About the Faculty
BOC instructors are all personally experienced in facilities maintenance
and operation as well as being excellent teachers. They have employment
experience in the facility specialty they are teaching, plus an
average of 10 years of instruction experience in the workplace.
All BOC instructors are evaluated by the students and each continues
to be ranked "very good to excellent."

Terry M. Brennan is a building scientist and educator with Camroden
Associates, Inc. He is on the editorial boards of Environmental
Building News
and Heating Piping and Air Conditioning Magazine. Recent work includes
consulting on a research
project to restore three homes in the Seventh Ward of New Orleans
after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita,
teaching healthy houing courses for the National Center for Healthy
Housing and working on a research project to study unplanned airflows
in commercial buildings in New York State. He is a member of ASHRAE
62.2 Ventilation and Air Quality Committee and served as consultant
to the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Dampness and Health
in Buildings. He holds a Bachelors degree in Physics and a
Masters degree in Environmental Studies.
Michael Collotti is currently the principal of Lighthouse Consulting
LLC, a direct install company specializing in lighting energy conservation.
His 40 years of experience in the lighting field include working
at Sylvania Lighting were he held a verity of positions. As an
HID product manager while at Sylvania he directed the development
of the HID family of lamps. Mike was the GM of Sylvania Caribbean
operations and later VP/GM of Sylvania Lighting Services which
provided turn key lighting solutions for national accounts.
Carlos Montanez is the Associate Director of Maintenance & Utilities
for Phillips Andover Academy. He oversees approximately 167 buildings
totaling 1.9 million square feet and serves as the chief engineer
for the school’s central heating and electric power plant.
He has over 30 years of power generation, utility distribution
and mechanical systems experience. Carlos also provides engineering
consultation services for the private sector and teaches Stationary
Engineering preparation courses for Commonwealth of Massachusetts
licensure and Continuing Education. Carlos has a Master’s
of Science degree in Facility Management, Bachelors of Science
in Marine Engineering, holds a Chief Engineers license in the U.S.
Merchant Marine, First Class Stationary Engineer, Certified Energy
Manager, Certified Plant Engineer, in addition to several other
State licenses and certifications.
Alan Mulak, PE, is a licensed professional engineer
with 32 years experience in the energy management field. Starting
out as a test engineer on nuclear submarines, Alan spent 10 years
working on power plant construction, overhaul, and maintenance.
Since 1982 to 1999, he worked on a variety of energy management
and conservation projects for utilities, private owners/investors,
and public municipalities. From 1999 to 2004, Alan worked as a
Program Manager for Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships, focused
upon improving operation and maintenance of commercial and industrial
facilities through the Building Operator Certification Program.
Currently, Mr. Mulak enjoys associations with 7 local energy service
companies and utilities, performing a wide variety of energy related
services.
Michael Petit holds a Journeyman license and is an electrical
contractor with 34 years experience. He holds professional licenses
in the states of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
Mike has been an adjunct instructor with NEIT in the Electrical
Technology program since 2006 were he has covered topics such as
electro-mechanical and electronic industrial controls. During the
winter of 2006-2007, Mike participated in a photovoltaic course,
both as a trainee and a trainer. Currently, Mr. Petit runs a State
of RI qualified apprenticeship program through his company, The
Grid Corporation.
William Turner, M.S., P.E., is the President and
CEO of Turner Building Science, LLC. Mr. Turner has 20 years of
experience in the development and implementation of indoor air
quality/HVAC evaluation and mechanical engineering HVAC/building
science diagnostic programs in school, commercial, health care,
laboratory, residential, and industrial settings. Experience includes:
HVAC performance evaluation, occupant complaint evaluation, air
monitoring data collection, building science evaluations, quality
assurance, technical report preparation, and specific recommendations
for corrective action. Mr. Turner is very active with professional
societies, including serving on the National Technical Indoor Air
Quality Advisory Boards for the American Lung Association (ALA),
the Research Subcommittee of the Environmental Health Committee
of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
Engineers (ASHRAE), and service on USEPA Advisory Boards including
Chairman of Diagnostic and Mitigation Subcommittee for the USEPA
B.A.S.E. Study and Science Advisory Board. Mr. Turner was a principal
author of the USEPA Indoor Air Division sponsored "Building Air Quality Guide", "Orientation
to Indoor Air Quality Training Course", and recently available "Hands
On Diagnostic Course".
Richard R. Vaillencourt, PE, is the principal
of Canterbury Engineering Associates, a firm providing energy engineering
services. Richard has degrees in both mechanical and electrical
engineering combined with twenty years of practical experience
in electrical construction, as a plant engineer (industrial), as
a corporate energy manager (industrial), and working for several
ESCOs before becoming an independent energy engineer. Richard has
presented several papers at the World Energy Engineering Congress
over the years and has authored a book: Simple Solutions to Energy
Calculations which
is in its third edition.
