Why Certification?
Building Operator Certification (BOC) is a competency-based training and certification for building operators offering improved job skills. Operators earn certification by attending training classes on a variety of topics, including facility electrical and lighting systems, HVAC, indoor air quality, sustainability, and energy conservation. Classroom instruction is combined with hands-on projects using the students' own facilities so that experience is relevant and practical.
For the student
BOC certification provides a credential for professional development and can create opportunities for advancement in the workplace. Fifty percent of operators report increased opportunities following completion of their BOC certification. BOC also improves the professionalism of facility departments by raising the profile of maintenance personnel. Graduates are better equipped to handle tenant demands because they have acquired essential skills. Success stories from our graduates detail how the knowledge gained from BOC helps them meet professional goals while providing energy savings for their organization.
For the employer
BOC saves money by improving the energy efficiency of heating and cooling systems, and enabling operators to be proactive in complying with environmental regulations affecting facility operations and maintenance. Energy savings achieved by BOC graduates show the demonstrated benefits graduates provide their organizations.
BOC certification is recognized by many employers as a certification of value for operators in their organization. The highly-regarded BOC program has been growing for over a decade due to its practical applications in facilities management and for consistently adapting its training as building management technology evolves. Now available in twenty-four states, the program has over 8,000 graduates who are saving time, energy and money.
