On Monday, April 15, CUNY’s Building Performance Lab held their second annual BOC Certification Renewal Fair for more than 200 building operations employees working in a range of City of New York agencies. The event was designed to give them an opportunity to renew their Building Operator Certification (BOC). DCAS Energy Management division, which is leading the City’s efforts to reduce energy use in municipal buildings, sponsored the fair.
In 2010, CUNY BP Lab began partnering with the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) and other city agencies to train more than 1,500 city employees in the BOC curriculum. The Renewal Fair is an opportunity not only to earn credits toward their renewal requirements, but to reconnect with their fellow BOC graduates, share experiences with real-world projects inspired by what they learned in the program, and explore new and emerging topics in building energy efficiency sessions.
“This year we were excited to offer classes on leading-edge practices, such as Building Re-Tuning and data visualization for diagnostics, in addition to classes on essential skills, such as Excel for building operators,” Daniella Leifer, BP Lab’s Manager of Training and Compliance Programs, said.
