The BOC instructor bio for the month of January comes from Stan Walerczyk, an instructor for our partner in Hawaii, the Sustainable Living Institute of Maui. Stan has over 24 years of experience, including distribution, maintenance, turnkey retrofit contracting, speaking, writing, lighting design, consultation, third party review, energy efficiency regulations, and research. Over 500 projects including military facilities, K-12 schools, colleges, hospitals, office buildings, convention centers, movie studios, libraries, historic commercial buildings, retail stores, factories, warehouses, parking facilities, multifamily dwellings, and single-family houses.

He moved to Maui full time end of  this past July, but has lived there part time for four years prior. When asked about his time in Hawaii, Stan commented “During that time, in addition to teaching the lighting section for BOC, I have been a free guest speaker at University of Hawaii – Maui Campus. Several of those students have become interns, have taken my BOC lighting class, and periodically ask me lighting questions.”

Stan also is active in industry events, presenting on a variety of lighting topics such as LED Technology Performance, Advanced Lighting Retrofit Options, and Lighting and the new Energy Crisis. He has also authored several articles and has been publsihed in industry journals, In 2012 and 2013 he has been a judge for the Architectural SSL Magazine’s Product Innovation Awards. He also holds the following vertifications and is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society.
