The Assistant Chief Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Western Washington University’s Steam Plant. You will assist the Chief Engineer with the planning of plant operations and substitute for the Chief when they are off duty. The Steam Plant is an essential campus facility operating around the clock to provide building heating and domestic hot water heating for the 3 million square foot WWU main campus. Under normal daily operations, you will lead and work with personnel in production and maintenance in a large, complex central steam plant facility operating multiple water tube boilers and a centralized compressed air system that drives pneumatic controls across campus. For emergency response, the successful candidate must be available outside of regular hours.
