JDM Associates – a nationwide energy management and sustainability consulting firm located in Falls Church, VA provides cost saving solutions to our clients through consulting engagements.  Our employees bring real value to our clients by identifying sustainable strategies and real time solutions that over time make a significant impact on their cost savings and, ultimately the environment.  We are seeking a highly-motivated, team-oriented professional in the Portland Oregon area to provide sustainability and energy efficiency consulting services to commercial building owners, asset managers, building engineers and operators. The successful candidate will review our clients’ properties, including office buildings, hotels, and multifamily communities, to identify opportunities for enhancing sustainability and reducing natural resource consumption. Consultants then support our clients as they implement recommended improvements and analyze the results in terms of cost savings, energy use reductions, and other metrics.

Essential Functions

Performs virtual and physical reviews of building systems and operations (e.g., HVAC, EMS, lighting, plumbing, irrigation)

  • Manages assigned client properties
  • Identifies opportunities to improve operating efficiencies
  • Conducts cost/benefit analyses to develop budget guidelines for recommended improvements
  • Reviews calculations and cost/benefit analyses to validate the underlying logic and assumptions, and problem-solve to correct issues and inconsistencies
  • Prepares calculations for building environmental equipment to determine capacity and, if required, make recommendations for upgrades, adjustment in usage, etc.
  • Uses probative skills to identify issues and solutions
  • Develops strategic and technical project documents and reports
  • Periodically travels to clients’ properties nationwide to conduct on-site asset evaluations
  • May review and interpret technical manuals and mechanical/electrical schematics
  • Support JDM’s clients to implement environmental improvements to reduce natural resource consumption and to reduce costs at client properties
  • Utilizes knowledge of real estate industry, sustainability, and environmental management to identify new opportunities and innovative solutions to meet clients’ environmental goals
  • Performs EPA EnergyStar Portfolio Manager energy analysis for JDM’s clients
  • Develops and finalizes Energy Report including energy use analysis details and summaries, HVAC, controls, lighting, and lighting control system for client delivery
  • Supports and/or lead LEED certification projects

Essential Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sustainability, Engineering or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Requires one or more years of specific industry experience, i.e., as an engineer, sustainability advisor/consultant, or energy efficiency expert
  • Licensed Engineer a plus
  • Mechanical knowledge of  Energy and HVAC systems helpful
  • Knowledge of lighting systems and equipment; energy management/building automation systems; and standard operations and maintenance procedures
  • Skilled in interpreting a variety of instructions furnished with written, oral diagrammatic, or schedule forms
  • Have experience in performing standard mathematics to compute profit and loss, ratios, proportions, percentage, volumes, weights, and measure
  • Exceptional writing (to include editing one’s own work as well as the work of others) and communication skills with the propensity to produce well written reports, documents, charts, graphs and updates to a variety of individuals
  • Ability to closely track projects and tasks to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of high-quality deliverables
  • LEED or other Green Building rating system knowledge preferred
  • Hands on skills in applying principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only a limited standardization exists
  • Experienced in sustainability topics specific to the commercial, multifamily, hotel industry with experience in green building strategies and technologies for both existing buildings and new construction
  • Knowledge and understanding of building operations and systems
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work in a fast-paced, self-directed environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) to effectively generate reports, graphs, and presentations
  • Willing to travel
