Representatives of more than 100 organizations across America participated in a building re-tuning webinar on April 23 presented by the Energy and Environment Directorate’s Srinivas Katipamula.

The hour-long session, “Building Tune-ups in Buildings with a Building Automation System,” was sponsored by the Northwest Energy Efficiency Council (NEEC) as part of its Smart Buildings Center Technical Webinar Series for Building Operator Certification (BOC). Attendees receive points toward maintaining BOC and other buildings-related certifications.

“Dr. Katipamula is very well known and regarded in the industry, and the webinar was presented on a topic that is very relevant to the audience of building operators,” says NEEC’s Russell Paez, who noted that 116 organizations were online during the session.

The webinar registrants represented a wide range of entities, spanning from a church in Washington state to several school districts in Ohio and the Portland (Maine) Water District. Srinivas imparted information on re-tuning methods to achieve improved operational performance and energy efficiency in buildings.

“It was a productive session, with lots of good engagement and questions. Those who participated are now armed with new knowledge that hopefully will lead to energy and cost savings in their facilities” Srinivas says.

Battelle and PNNL played seminal roles in the development of re-tuning, which the Department of Energy now refers to as “Re-tuning™.” The methodology has improved the efficiency of millions of square feet of floor space nationwide.
