BOC training enhances skills in efficient building operations, project planning, and better decision-making with immediate ability to apply learned knowledge. BOC graduates are able to increase occupant comfort and extend equipment longevity. Program evaluation, based on 17 independent third-party evaluators, shows that average savings per participant is roughly 100,500 kWh annually, equivalent to approximately $10,500 in energy cost savings. BOC-certified operators can also help save about 113,660 gallons of water per enrollee (≈ 0.14 gallons per square foot).

Even with high-performance mechanical systems, real savings often come from operational excellence and how the building is managed daily. The BOC program emphasizes that buildings can only be operated efficiently if operators are properly trained. Most buildings can reduce total energy use by 5-30%, and through operations & maintenance best practices individuals can save 5-20% annually on energy bills, assuming operators are well-trained.

As a subrecipient of the Building Training and Assessment Center (BTAC) grant, SPEER is able to offer this training and certification program for maintenance and operations personnel free of charge! A required $150 deposit will be reimbursed upon the successful completion of the course.

Our Spring 2026 Course will run from February 10th – May 21st. Equip yourself with energy-saving operational strategies and enable your building to become more efficient, comfortable, and environmentally friendly.
